Snorkelling is your introduction to the underwater environment, and can lead to much more. It is an activity the entire family can enjoy together. Our snorkelling course is planned in a way to teach people of all ages the basics of snorkelling. Selecting the correct equipment, how to use it, safe water entries, finning techniques, and how to log your dives. The course also covers some basic marine identification and also teaches water movement, tides and currents.
Your Snorkel Diver program with Leisure Coast Dive is full of information and guidance to help make your snorkeling adventure easy and fun.
Knowledge. The theory lesson will familiarize you with the snorkeling system incorporating: the mask, fins, snorkel and boots.
Skills. Increase your enjoyment by learning how to get into and out of the water, how to move in the water with ease and confidence. We also teach you identification and appreciation for the diverse local marine life.
Equipment. Find out how to purchase, adjust and maintain snorkeling equipment. We teach you how to select the correct snorkeling system to suit your lifestyle and budget.

We offer you the chance to see what scuba diving is really like.
When you try scuba, you will discover the weightlessness of being immersed in water, the excitement of breathing while underwater.
During your theory session, which takes about an hour, you will be taught the basics of scuba and given a general understanding of scuba equipment. Under the guidance of one of our professional dive leaders you will be given the opportunity to scuba dive in the local pool, using our top of the line scuba systems.
Knowledge. The theory session focuses on the minimal knowledge requirements of divers such as equipment modification, equalizing pressure, breathing, moving through the water and familiarisation with all the equipment.
Skills. So you can proceed to the water as soon as possible, you'll practice a reduced set of skills with SSI's Comfort Through Repetition teaching method. This permits the non-diver to experience the fun and adventure of scuba diving under the supervision of an SSI Instructor in an idyllic environment.

Scuba Experience (open water &/or pool)

The Scuba experience is for those who have a little more confidence and experience in the water via snorkeling, previous scuba experiences, try scubas or other water related activities.
The Scuba Experience with Leisure Coast Dive offers you two options you can be guided through the pool session followed by an escorted open water dive. During your scuba experience, you'll master some basic theory and scuba diving aptitude prior to heading off on an open water dive.
Or for those who have previously completed a try Scuba or who are proficient in the water you can complete just the Open Water Scuba experience. You will dive to a maximum of 12 metres.
You may only proceed to the open water option, after showing the knowledge and proficiency required, in the theory session.

Open Water Diver
Begin your Adventure. We are delighted that you are looking at LEISURE COAST DIVE to begin your underwater education. We thank you for allowing us this opportunity. Scuba is an enjoyable pastime and what you learn while you are here us will remain with you for the rest of your life. As an Open Water Diver you will have the opportunity to dive in locations all over the world; magnificent coral reefs and walls, see shipwrecks and exotic fish, even diving with sharks and other large sea life. Diving offers a lifetime of exciting adventure and the ideal way to begin that adventure is with our Open Water Diver course. Or, if you are between the ages of 12 and 15 you can take the Junior Open Water Course. Scuba diving is a superb sport that can give you everything from heart-pumping activity to hushed respite. No matter what type of underwater adventure you wish to experience, our scuba training program will give you the best preparation for a lifetime of serious diving and serious fun.
Your Open Water course with Leisure Coast Dive will give you the qualifications to dive anywhere in the world and is sanctioned by , and as such you can be certain that upon completion of your open water course you will have attained an internationally recognised SCUBA qualification, which ensures that no matter where your diving travel takes you, you will not only have fun in the water but you will also have had the best of training. Our courses are devised for beginners as well as for those who may have already completed a 'try dive' or scuba experience. Our Open Water courses will teach you the theory, procedures, equipment and safety measures required for you to enjoy scuba diving.
Knowledge. Classes at Leisure Coast Dive are four days in length and are conducted in our on site classroom, or you can utilize the benefits of SSI’s Home Study approach, which allows you to minimize the classroom sessions by completing much of your theory at home. Home study allows you to spend more time in the water developing your ability and comfort. Classroom instruction is presented in easy to understand units
Skills. The second part of your education takes place in the pool; you will put into practice the skills learnt in the classrooms session, before you head out to the open water for your certification dives.
Equipment Diving is an equipment intensive sport and given that you can't dive without equipment, there is comprehensive information on scuba equipment including:
- Choosing the diving equipment which best suits your needs and budget
- Equipment maintenance
We encourage you to talk to your instructor about any of your equipment needs. This in turn will ensure that once you are ready to invest in your scuba system your choice will be an informed one and you will select equipment that is not only comfortable, but that it will also last you for a lifetime of diving.

What do you need to provide? To qualify as an Open Water diver, you need to be medically fit and able to swim 200 metres in any style with no time limit. Certain illnesses such as diabetes, asthma or a history of heart trouble may prevent otherwise fit people from SCUBA diving. Because of this, you must have clearance from a doctor that you are fit to dive. Apart from the completed medical, a yearning for fun and a sense of adventure; the only other thing you need is your swimmers and a towel.
How long will it take? Your open water course with Leisure Coast Dive is conducted over 4 days. Beginning at 8.45am and finishing around 3.00pm. (These hours can be adapted). We also offer a condensed course over three days or for those who are on a limited time schedule or for those who cannot fit into our course schedule we have a more personalised option available.
What will I do? The open water dive course consists of theory and practical lessons. Subjects covered include use and care of equipment, basic sciences applicable to scuba diving; water safety; dive planning The theory training also includes a multiple choice test. Practical skills you will learn includes gear handling, snorkel diving, SCUBA breathing techniques, entry and exit methods, mask clearing, the buddy system & buoyancy control. You will find yourself in a world which is unique; a world few find the pleasure of experiencing. Under the guidance of one of our professional instructors you will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enjoy a lifetime of underwater exploration. You will experience the sensation of weightlessness and the excitement of actually breathing underwater. Your instructor will even teach you about our local diving environment and many other diving opportunities. By the end of your course you will have experienced the thrill of diving in the open ocean. You will dive to a depth of up to eighteen metres. When you have completed your Open Water course certification, you are immediately qualified to dive unsupervised, with a qualified buddy, in a diving environment similar to that in which you were trained.Day 1 Introductions; theory and a pool sessionDay 2 Two open ocean dives; log books; gear maintenanceDay 3 Is a repetition of day 2 (plus exam if doing condensed option)Day 4 2 open ocean boat dives; theory/revision; exam.
