The Dive Controller Course is the first step into SSI’s leadership level certifications. With this rating you earn both the Assistant instructor rating as well as Dive Master rating.
The Dive Controller rating enables you to
- Lead dive trips,
- Assist with course instruction,
- Teach snorkelling and refresher courses.
- Enable you to work on dive boats and resorts if you are travel
- Teach Skill Update programs
- Teach Snorkelling Programs
- Teach some specialty courses
You will study advanced physics, physiology and decompression theory. You will practice rescue techniques and be taught the basics of teaching. You will also be required to serve an ‘apprenticeship time’ in the dive centre
Prerequisites for the SSI Dive Control Specialist course are:-
Be at least 18 years old.
Logged at least 60 open water dives.
Provide own scuba equipment of leadership quality.
Have a current medical exam for diving signed by a physician.
Be certified at least at the Advanced Open Water level.
Be certified at the Stress and Rescue level
Requirements for Dive Control Specialist certification are:
Have current certification in CPR.
Have current certification in first aid.
Serve apprenticeship time of at least 2 complete open water programs or assist on 20 Introduction to Scuba Dives
Complete a Diver Stress and Rescue course or equivalent.
Complete a watermanship evaluation.
Obtain a pass mark of 90% on the final theory exam
The watermanship evaluation is to include a:300 metre swim with out swimming aids in no specific time 800 metre snorkel in snorkelling gear within 17 minutes 10 minute survival float |
