Decompression Diving

The SSI Decompression Diving program includes 4 theory lectures, 1 practical gear configuration session, 1 Land drill session, 1 confined water dive and 5 open water dives. Your Instructor will use the SSI Decompression Diving Instructor Manual and the SSI Decompression Diving Visual Teaching Aids to enhance your learning experience. This course may be taken in conjunction with the SSI Nitrox Diving course. When done so theory content for both courses must be fully covered, both sets of review questions and final exams completed. The 2 nitrox course dives may be completed during Open Water Dives 2 and 3 providing these dives are completed using nitrox. No additional dives are required.

Prerequisites

• SSI deep diver or approved equivalent
• SSI Nitrox Diver or approved equivalent
• SSI Stress Rescue Diver or approved equivalent
• Current diving medical to AS 4005.1 (within 12 months)
• Minimum 50 logged dives 10 of which must be to at least 30 metres. If no Stress Rescue certification is held minimum dives shall be raised to 75 dives, 15 of which must be to at least 30m
• 18 years of age

Course Standards

• Maximum depth should not allow PO2 greater than 1.4 BAR PO2
• Maximum planned decompression should not exceed 60 minutes
• Student to Instructor ratio 4:1 or 6:2 with certified assistant (note: certified assistant means a current insured Divecon or instructor who has completed the SSI decompression Diving course )
